Droid X Increases Profitability for Motorola
Reported by: Anza, crwenewswire Mideast correspondent
The Motorola Droid X powered by the Android system has over shadowed analyst’s targets. The second quarter profits were 9 cents per share.
On Thursday analysts announced expected revenue of $5.2 billion, and profit per share to be 8 cents for the second quarter of the year. But providentially the Droid X stretched the revenues to $5.41 billion. Motorola shipped almost 8.3 million handsets in the second quarter of 2010.
Retailing the Droid X was a merchants dream at Verizon Wireless stores and Best Buy co. The stores even took back orders for the units.
Motorola explains that the cell phone chip is the major constraint inhibiting further production. Alongside the strong sale of the Droid X, Motorola is facing strong competition from Samsung and HTC
The Droid X is “off to a great start” and “exceeding our expectations,” Jha (Motorola’s co chief executive) said. He expects the company to launch “meaningfully more” than 20 smart phones this year.
Motorola admits that the increase in popularity of the hand set is due to its user friendly operating system. Motorola requires innovation to preserve its position.
One of the analysts reported: “They’ve got good progress but unfortunately in this business it’s ‘What are you going to do tomorrow?’ not ‘What did you do yesterday?”

Motorola Droid X Surpasses Expectations
![]()
Reported by: Zee crwenewswire Mideast correspondent
Motorola Droid X got a much better response than the company expected. The Droid X is now in short supply in the Verizon Wireless retail stores and customer pre-orders are being taken for home delivery. It is expected that the Droid X won’t be available in the market until August 4, 2010. All the stores are promising home delivery of the device by the 5th of August for orders placed by the 23rd of July.
Apple displays a video on its webpage showing that the Droid X also has the same reception problem as the iPhone4. However, the response to the Droid X has proven that it is one of the most successful Android-based devices ever launched and that it has set a standard by which all other Android phones can be measured.
It has been reported that customers prefer the Droid X because of its large screen, which helps users in multitasking. It is expected that the handset will be upgraded by August. The Droid X is expected to reach the popularity of the Droid 2 within the next month. A superior response to the upgrade of the Droid X is also expected.

What’s in Store for Verizon This Summer
![]()
By Bobbie Katz
X marks the spot to find the latest technology in a smart device from Verizon Wireless.
On Wednesday, the company announced that it will begin selling the follow-up to Motorola’s popular Droid smartphone – the Droid X – on July 15. The phone, which is part of the cell phone comeback plan for Motorola Inc, will sell for $200 with a rebate and two-year wireless service contract.
Among the cell phone’s features is a HDMI port that allows users to connect it to a TV and watch content stored on the phone on a larger screen. The Droid X, which runs Google Inc.’s Android software, offers a touch screen that measures 4.3 inches diagonally and an 8-megapixel camera with a dual flash that can also record high-definition videos.
According to Verizon, later this summer Droid X buyers will get the newest Android software, version 2.2, as well as Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 for watching flash videos.
The announcement of the new smartphone comes a day before the release of Apple’s latest product, iPhone 4. The device has already created so much interest that Apple and its partner companies started taking pre-orders on June 15 and within 24 hours had received more than 600,000 orders, the highest it has ever seen. Because of the high demand, the companies quickly stopped taking orders for shipment by June 24, the day the phone hits stores.
